Masoor Dal Soup (red lentil soup)


Ingredients
Masoor dal (red lentils)
Tomatoes
Onions
Ginger
Garlic
Red chilli powder
Rasam powder
Salt
Oil

Method
Soak masoor daal for about 10-15 minutes. Then in the cooker, heat some oil and sautee crushed ginger and garlic, and then chopped onions. Once brown, add tomatoes and cook for some time. Then after draining water from soaked masoor daal, add it to the cooker. Add 2 cups cups of water for every 1 cup of daal. Add red chilling powder, 2 tsp rasam powder (important for flavouring) and salt. Let it cook in the cooker for 3-4 whistles or about 10 minutes.

Then once a bit cool, strain it through a strainer. Then bring it to a boil once more. Taste and add salt if required. Your red lentil soup is ready.

Serve hot and enjoy with garlic bread!
